A nearly finished quilt!

Well, I've been a bit slow on the bears lately you may or may not have noticed. That's because 11 weeks ago I set myself the task of completing a quilt for my dear sister-in-law's birthday, which was today. Ruth was celebrating her 60th birthday, which I have had great pleasure in teasing her about, seeing she is 3 years older than me LOL ......... although I know full well she'll get me back when I reach the same age!! Anyway, I amazed myself at how well I've done, even though it's not quite finished. Bear in mind the applique (and there's quite a lot of it) and the quilting is all done by hand - yes, I'm a glutton for punishment!!

Anyway, even though not finished, I handed it over to Ruth; and after much admiration of it by everyone, I took it back from her so that I can finish the quilting. It was a secret up until today, but now that she's seen it, I can 'show & tell'!!

The sunflowers are in memory of my wonderful brother who we tragically lost 6 years ago, because those were his favourite flower; and the inclusion of them meant a lot to Ruth.

And labelled of course!

And to finish off, a few 'birthday tea' photos, including Charlie (Ruth's pup) who just couldn't get close enough to that beautiful cake - isn't he sooooo cute? I'm not going to put a picture of Ruth on, as I don't have her permission and she may not wish to appear on my blog, but Charlie won't mind!!

Archie

Archie is made entirely by me from a beautifully soft Steiff Schulte viscose fabric, which is lovely caramel kind of colour. He is 5-way cotter jointed, with a wobble neck joint and is filled as usual with firm fibre-fill and steel shot for a good bit of weight. I’ve then aged him around the edges with oil pastels and added faux mending stitches here and there to add to the vintage look. He has black glass eyes and a prim stitched nose. I’ve made Archie a pair of prim style dungarees, made from homespun fabric, with a red hankie poking out of one of the pockets and a camera charm stitched on the other pocket – he also has 2 small bells around his neck.

From top to toe, Archie measures 10 inches (approx 25cms): sitting height he is 8 inches (approx. 19cms).

On his back you can see a fabric ‘Handmade at Bilberry Lane’ label and his unique antique style metal ‘BL’ pin.

Archie can be purchased for £50, plus shipping and packing:

Summertime Delight - Log Cabin blocks

I love, love 'log cabin' blocks, don't you? These four are the next instalment in my BOM quilt from Totally Patched, called 'Summertime Delight'. I couldn't wait for these to arrive and got on to them straight away.

I hope you like them too!

This is a picture again of the finished quilt - unfortunately, it's a poor photo (not taken by me!) and doesn't show the real beauty of it!

Fluffy bunny!

Well, here's a change to my usual style! I've just come home from completing another teddy bear workshop run by Lynn Bowie of Madaboutbears. This is her style and, although very different to mine, I couldn't resist how cute her bears are - added to which, the workshop was in Birmingham, so even better - I didn't even need to travel very far.

So far my bunny doesn't have a name ........ so any suggestions will be welcomed! Naming my bears is always a chore; and I'm so tired right now, my brain isn't in gear!

This was a sort of 'birthday present to self' as it was my birthday yesterday; and because of that, I was also presented with a bottle of Prosecco - thank you very much!!

I haven't measured her yet, but I'd say she's about 8 inches top to toe and made from a faux fur. Isn't she a little cutie!!

Easter pretties!

Pretty colour boxes made by me (with a die-cutting machine!) ......... mini eggs inside made by Cadburys! Some little Easter treats for the family yesterday, although it was a bit of a struggle to give away the eggs LOL

Lily

Lily; my third bunny, just in time for Easter, is made from Schulte viscose fabric in a gorgeous vintage shade of dusky pink, with a pretty floral cotton fabric for the inner ears. Around her neck, I’ve tied silk ribbons in matching pink and lilac.

Lily is 8¾ inches/22cms top to toe and 6½ inches/16cms sitting. She is 5-way cotter jointed, with a wobble neck joint and filled with firm fibre filling and steel shot for weight. She has black glass eyes and has been slightly aged around the edges with oil pastels to add to the vintage look.

Although I forgot to photograph them, on her back are a fabric ‘Handmade at Bilberry Lane’ label and her unique antique style ‘BL’ pin.

Lily’s finishing touches are a bunny/egg antique style brass charm with matching cotton fabric around her neck and on her head is a beret made from cotton velvet (hand-dyed by me) in a plum colour decorated with a silk flower and a bell on top.

The next photograph is done for and at the suggestion of Simone of Linden Grove blog, who wanted to see a better idea of scale, so here is Lily sitting in my hand – thanks very much for that idea Simone.

Lily can be purchased for £50, plus shipping and packing:

Sally Shopper

This is a bit of a show off post really!! I knocked this bag up this evening in about 2½ hours; and that includes cutting out the pattern. It's called a 'Sally Shopper' and I bought it as a kit from Create & Craft a week ago (the Freeview TV Shopping Channel Craft show) from a company called 'The Owl and the Sewing Cat'. I liked it so much, I ordered the kit and it had arrived when I got home from work this evening - I even surprised myself when I decided to set about making it this evening.

It was quite easy to be fair, but all the same, I have been at work all day, so not bad eh! The little gold tag thing on the handle is my own addition and I shall make a little pretty something or other with beads and charms to hang on it when I have a bit more time - time really didn't allow for that as well tonight!!

Lemoni

Lemoni (only my second bunny) is so named after a character in the film ‘Captain Correlli’s Mandolin’ and for no other reason than I’ve always loved the name since I saw the film years ago; and as the viscose fabric is a rather pretty lemon colour, it seemed appropriate. Her inner ears and paw pads are genuine Liberty Tana Lawn fabric and she has pretty lemon and pink ribbons around her head.

Lemoni is 8 inches/ 20cms from top to toe and 6 inches /15cms sitting height. She is 5-way cotter jointed, with a wobble neck joint and filled with firm fibre filling and steel shot for a good bit of weight. She has black glass eyes and has been slightly aged around the edges with oil pastels to give a bit of a vintage look.

On her back you can see her fabric ‘Handmade at Bilberry Lane’ label and her unique antique style ‘BL’ pin.

Lemoni’s finishing touch if a lovely little strawberry made from a deep red wool fabric, with a bit of green for the leaves, plus leaf and flower charms, which has been pinned on her chest with a rusty style safety pin.

Lemoni can be purchased for £50, plus shipping and packing:

UK - £8 Special Delivery
Europe - £15, tracked and signed for

Summertime Delight!

Just a little peak at my next creation ........ I'm half-way there! But can you work out what it is yet!

and as well as that, Today I've also made a start on (and nearly finished) the first block in a Block of the Month (BOM) that I've joined. This pattern is called 'Dresden Plate' and I'm really pleased with how its turned out - such lovely sunshine colours!

The quilt is called 'Summertime Delight' - bought from Totally Patched. This is the first quilt I've started in about 4 years; and the first time I've ever done a BOM, but I couldn't resist and it's very reasonably priced. The real 'hook' was that all the pieces come pre-cut! And as all patchworkers/quilters know, it's the cutting out that takes the time. When on earth I think I'm going to find the time to do this as well as my bears, I just don't know, but I just love it!!

This is a picture of the finished quilt - it's a bit fuzzy, but I hope you get the idea!

Thanks for popping by.

Goldie

Oh dear, I think Goldie is a little bit shy today!

That’s better; you can see her properly now - she’s a pretty little girl don’t you think? She’s getting ready early for Easter with her basket of Easter eggs, all needle-felted by me – what a laborious task!

Anyway, Goldie is made entirely by me from a lovely soft viscose fabric and suede paw pads. She is 5-way cotter jointed, with a wobble neck joint and she is filled as usual with firm fibre-fill and steel shot for a nice bit of weight. I’ve then aged her around the edges with oil pastels and added some faux mending stitches here and there to add to the vintage look. She has black glass English eyes and a prim stitched nose; and she is finished off with a very pretty ribbon around her head and a small bell around her neck. Her basket of eggs also comes with her.

From top to toe, Goldie measures 9 inches (23cms) and sitting height she is 7 inches (17cms).

On her back you can see her fabric ‘Handmade at Bilberry Lane’ Label and her unique antique style ‘BL’ pin.

EDIT: I'm happy to say that Goldie has been adopted

Cadbury Bear

I have a new look and name to my blog! As you may, or may not be aware, I started making Artist Bears about 18 months ago. I then decided to start a new blog dedicated to the bears and leave this one (previously Bilberry Grove) for other crafts. Well, I haven’t been happy with the new blog!! It’s probably me, but it’s simply never worked properly and I don’t understand why; and neither do I have to time (or inclination!) to work it out. So as you see, I have reverted to this one and changed the name (and look) to ‘Bilberry Lane’. In effect, this will be predominately Artist Bears, plus anything else I make.

Thank you for reading – I just felt the need to explain!!

So, the 4 posts below are some of the bears I’ve made over the last few months, including Cadbury which I finished at the weekend.

Cadbury Bear

Cadbury is off to find some chocolate by the looks of things – he can’t wait until Easter and I think he’s hoping to get quite a lot by the look of that bag!!

Cadbury is just 9 inches/23cms tall from top to toe and 6½ inches/17cms sitting height. He is made from a lovely chocolate colour, beautifully soft Viscose fabric. He is filled with the usual firm fibre-fill and steel shot for weight. He is 5-way cotter jointed, with black glass eyes and simply adorned with a purple ribbon around his neck. Cadbury’s bag is made from linen and the logo is printed cotton – the bag also has a small lilac fabric flower and a teddy bear antique brass charm stitched on. Cadbury has been distressed around the edges for a nice look of vintage!

I hope you like him!

Cadbury can be adopted for £50, plus shipping and packaging
